On June 15, in New York, a joint communique was signed on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Trinidad and Tobago, Dunyo reported.
The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has become the 144th country with which Uzbekistan has established diplomatic relations. The joint communique on this matter was signed by the permanent representatives of the two countries to the United Nations in New York.
The document was signed on behalf of the governments of both countries by Ambassador Bakhodir Ibrahimov, the permanent representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, and Dennis Francis, the permanent representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the UN.
Expressing his satisfaction at the establishment of diplomatic relations, Dennis Francis remarked;
"I am glad that the day has come when Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan have officially announced to the world and the international community their decision to establish diplomatic relations”
“We in Trinidad and Tobago see this as the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Uzbekistan, which is an important member of the Central Asian region" he continued.
Trinidad and Tobago, located on the northeast coast of South America, is a member of the British Commonwealth and the Organization of American States. The newly formed diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Trinidad and Tobago present opportunities for collaboration within the framework of international organizations, including the United Nations and its agencies. Both parties have expressed their intention to strengthen joint cooperation and explore mutually beneficial areas of collaboration.
Uzbekistan views the establishment of diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago as a crucial step in enhancing its interaction with countries in the Caribbean region. This development opens doors for increased economic, cultural, and political engagement between Uzbekistan and the nations of the Caribbean.
Earlier, on June 1, Trinidad and Tobago's Permanent Representative, Dennis Francis, was elected as the Chairman of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, further solidifying the country's position on the international stage.
Moreover, Uzbekistan's diplomatic efforts have been gaining momentum, with the recent establishment of diplomatic relations with Sierra Leone in April. Sierra Leone became the 143rd country to establish diplomatic ties with Uzbekistan, marking a significant milestone for both nations.
