North Korea launches ballistic missile into Sea of Japan

Reports from the South Korean Joint Committee of the Chiefs of Staff indicate that North Korea has conducted a ballistic missile launch, which landed in the Sea of Japan, Yonhap reports.

The launch occurred immediately after the joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States near the border with North Korea. Prior to the incident, the Japanese Ministry of Defense had already alerted Seoul about the potential missile launch.

Subsequently, the Japanese Coast Guard confirmed that the ballistic missile had indeed fallen into the Sea of Japan.

North Korea had previously declined to notify the UN International Maritime Organization about its missile launches.
