At the recent IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's premier defense summit held in Singapore from June 2 to June 4, 2023, Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu announced that China is actively striving to bring about stability in Afghanistan. He emphasized China's commitment to this goal while maintaining respect for Afghanistan's sovereignty and abstaining from interference in its internal affairs.
This summit, recognized as the foremost platform for defense discussions in Asia, allows ministers from across the region to deliberate on critical security issues, engage in significant bilateral dialogues, and collectively develop innovative solutions to these problems.
Minister Shangfu underscored China's ongoing support to Afghanistan by noting that China has already provided over $49 million in humanitarian aid. Beyond financial assistance, China continues to demonstrate its commitment to Afghanistan's stability by hosting and participating in numerous talks and consultations centered around the nation's issues. Through its contributions and active engagement, China aims to foster stability and progress in Afghanistan, demonstrating the values of mutual respect and collaboration espoused at the Shangri-La Dialogue.
