Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko is adjusting his behavior and rhetoric regarding the war in Ukraine, recognizing that it will not end well for Russia, according to Ukrainian military expert Oleg Zhdanov.
Previously, Lukashenko allowed his territory to be used for attacks, but he now understands that victory for Russia is unlikely and has made informal agreements not to use Belarusian territory to attack Ukraine while maintaining diplomatic relations with Ukraine and several European countries.
Lukashenko recently stated that he does not want to fight and does not believe that Poland or Ukraine will attack Belarus. Despite this, Belarus has established temporary border controls with Russia, citing the implementation of an agreement on visa recognition. The Border Committee has stated that these measures are temporary but has not specified when they will be lifted.
