Some 268 weapons have been seized since the beginning of 2023, including those stolen during the January 2022 riots, Daryo correspondent in Kazakhstan reports with reference to the Information Bureau.
The list of confiscated weapons includes 38 Kalashnikov assault rifles, 126 rifles, 104 pistols, 21 grenades, and four explosive devices. The security forces reportedly also seized some 30,199 different-caliber ammunition, bulletproof vests, protective helmets, handcuffs, automatic magazines, shields, and radio stations.
Most of the weapons were found in caches. In Almaty and Zhambyl regions, four instances were found, in Almaty and North Kazakhstan regions - three, in Zhetysu region - two, in Kostanay, Semey, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Baikonyr, Aktobe, and Pavlodar regions - one.
Pre-trial investigations are currently underway. The search for and confiscation of weapons from illegal circulation continues.
