Uzbekistan's international trade throughput was $14.8bn from January to March 2023, an 11.9% rise in comparison to the same period in 2022, the Statistics Agency reports.
However, while exports fell by 2.6% to $5.7bn, imports soared by 23.4% to $9.1bn. China surpassed Russia as Uzbekistan's largest trading partner in March. Uzbekistan has commercial links with 167 countries, with China and Russia being its two most important trading partners, with $2.4bn and $2.2bn in trade, respectively.
Only Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan have an improved foreign trade surplus among Uzbekistan's top 20 trading partners. Tashkent (capital city), Tashkent region, and Andijan have the highest international trade turnover, whereas Surkhandarya, Karakalpakstan, and Kashkadarya have the lowest.
In terms of geographical division, the CIS nations contributed to 32.3% of international trade turnover in January-March, up 1.9% from the same period in 2022, while foreign commerce with other countries fell by 1.9%.
