Jogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan) deputy Sharapatkan Majitova called for a ban on wearing a black burqa for Kyrgyz women, Sputnik reports.
Majitova said at the parliamentary meeting that she went to Osh to distribute "certificates worth about $1,142 for the social package". According to her, the women who came to the meeting were wearing burqas (face covers).
"Everyone is dressed in black, only the eyes are visible. There are many women who dress like that. Let muftis do their work. Let them wear a headscarf, but what's the point of wearing black clothes?", said the deputy.
Majitova asked Almas Abitov, the representative of the President's Cabinet of Ministers in the Parliament, to issue the relevant protocol assignment.
