The oil and gas agencies of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have started the work on the restoration of the underground gas storage "Northern Sokh", located in the Uzbek enclave of Sokh in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic. This was reported by the press service of the Uztransgaz company.
According to the information, the ministries of energy of the two countries signed a roadmap to prepare a project for the restoration of the Northern Sokh gas storage for joint use, during the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Bishkek in February this year.
“A working group was formed from the Uzbek side, which visited the Kadamdzhai district on April 10 to study issues as part of research on the project,” the report says.
The Uzneftegaz specialists from the UzLITIneftegaz conducted a preliminary survey of the gas wells of the storage facility and developed terms of reference for their field study.
Underground gas storage "Northern Sokh" was put into operation in 1976. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was not used and was the subject of a dispute between the two states - almost all the storage parts are located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan, and the compressors - on the territory of Uzbekistan. The storage volume is about 3 billion cubic meters.
