The consumer community on Facebook has reported a sharp surge in prices for tomatoes, claiming the fruit costs up to 42,000 UZS per kilogram in some markets, media reports.
Tomatoes were grown in a greenhouse between January and March. Some of Uzbekistan’s consumers believe that the price hike could be due to the fact that seedlings were frozen. Others associate this fact with the increasing potato exports and with the rain.
They believe the famous Uzbek Tomato and Onion Salad (Achichuk) would soon cost the earth.
