Uzbekistan’s State Security Service reported on March 1 that several drug trafficking cases originating in neighboring countries had been dealt with jointly with other agencies.
In the Syrdarya region, 42.89 kg of hashish and 4.81 kg of opium were seized and smuggled from Tajikistan. The investigation revealed that a previously convicted drug offender, a resident of Margilan (born in 1986), and a friend, a resident of the Tashlak district ( born in 1987), crossed the border into the Besharyk district went to the Zafarabad district of the Sogd region of Tajikistan. They met with a resident and agreed to take the drugs to the Hawast district of Syrdarya for $10,000. However, they were detained upon their return to Uzbekistan.
It was previously reported that 7.3 kilograms of opium had been found in the house of a resident of the Urgut district of the Samarkand region (born in 1992), which he planned to sell. As part of the criminal investigation, 6.4 kilograms of opium were seized from his relative’s house. The drugs were also imported from Tajikistan.
Two residents of the Balykchin district of Andijan province (born in 1963 and 1968), who had previously been convicted and served a sentence for drug-related crimes, were arrested in the Tashkent region while attempting to sell almost 1.4 kg of hashish for $15,000. The drugs were imported from Kyrgyzstan.
Another 546 g of hashish imported from Kyrgyzstan was found in the homes of three previously convicted residents of Andijan (1979, 1984, 1987).
