President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Wednesday (February 15) inked the law on ratification of the intergovernmental agreement with Turkey on the transfer of convicts, Xalq So'zi reports.
According to the media, the law was passed by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis in October 2022 and approved by the Senate later in December. The document was inked on March 29, 2022, during the visit of the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to Uzbekistan. The bill was developed to strengthen security, defense, and military-technical cooperation between the two countries.
It is expected to create conditions for foreign nationals who have committed crimes and are deprived of their liberty to serve their sentences in their country and increase the effectiveness of their social rehabilitation.
