Former Minister of Culture, and Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Senate Committee on Youth, Culture, and Sports Bakhtiyor Sayfullayev died aged 72, media reports referring to the ‘Yuklalish’ national movement.
Bakhtiyor Sayfullayev began his career in 1972 as an actor and then director of the Republican Theatre of Young Spectators. In various years he worked as a vice-rector of the Tashkent State Institute of Culture named after Abdulla Qodiriy, and rector of the Tashkent State Institute of Arts named after Mannon Uygʻur.
From 2005 to 2012 Bekhtiyor Sayfullayev served as the First Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports. In August 2017 he was appointed Minister of Culture. He served in this position until January 2020.
