Uzbekistan ranked sixth at the first Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities in the Serbian capital Belgrade.
The competition saw teams from 22 countries and two international associations, as well as the team of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). By scoring six wins in as many matches, Poland grabbed gold. The second place was taken by the Association of Chess Players with Musculoskeletal Disease, and the Philippine national team closed the top three.
The national team of Uzbekistan, being the 20th on the starting list, occupied sixth place. Akhadkhon Kimsanboev, who became the Asian champion among the visually impaired last year, won a silver medal among chess players who played on the fourth board. Besides, Marsel Shayusupov was recognized as the youngest participant in the contest among the hearing impaired.
