The General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan announced the preliminary cause of death of Polat Shamshetov, a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karakalpakstan, a suspect in a criminal case on the events in Nukus, the Offices official telegram channel cites.

According to the papers, the death happened on February 4 in pre-trial detention centre No. 4 of the Department for the Execution of Punishment under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan in Bukhara.
The Polat Shamshetov's cell was inspected by the investigative group, which included the heads of the prosecutor's office and the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Bukhara region, as well as forensic medical experts and witnesses.
The process was also attended by the regional representative of the Ombudsman for the Bukhara region, lawyer Polat Shamshetova and his close relatives.
The forensic examination reported that the suspect died due to pulmonary embolism and acute cardiovascular failure.
