To ensure the supply of electric power to the Surkhandarya region, Uzbekistan has begun importing additional electricity from neighboring Tajikistan, the press service of Regional Electric Networks reports.
Reportedly, on January 18, 2023, 70% of the region’s Shurchi, Altinsay, Kumkurgan, and Jarkurgan districts, 90% of Bandikhan, Kizirik, Sherabad districts, and all the consumers in Baysun, Sariasiya, Uzun, Denau districts received 220kV L-electricity from the Regar-500 substation of neighboring Tajikistan.
The load-carrying capacity of the wire in each of the 220kV L-Regar-Zarchop and L-Regar-Sherabad power transmission lines from Tajikistan’s Regar-500 substation is designed for 250 MW. Therefore, when any of the L-Regar-Zarchop and L-Regar-Sherabad power transmission lines are shut down in an emergency, to preserve the energy system, based on the order of the dispatchers of the Southern Regional Dispatch Office in Shurchi, Altinsay, Kumkurgan, Jarkurgan, Bandikhan, Kizirik, Sherabad, Baysun, Sariasiya, Uzun, Denau districts and the dispatcher of the Surkhandarya regional dispatch department, it is compulsory to limit 70-80 MW per hour from 6-10 kV feeders under the scheduling restrictions ratified by the districts.
As stated, Uzbekistan has been importing energy from Tajikistan since April 2018. The volumes of supply are regulated depending on demand.
