Former Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Rashid Kadyrov, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison on June 26, 2019, was released on parole a few days ago. This information was confirmed by two independent sources of Kun.uz in the law enforcement agencies.
Rashid Kadyrov, who served as the Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan from 2000-2015, was charged with bribery, fraud, tax evasion, and interfering with the investigation and court cases, criminal was found guilty of committing a number of serious and extremely serious crimes against the activity order of authorities, management and public associations, such as money laundering.
In the closed court that lasted for about 6 months, the statements of about 200 witnesses were heard and carefully examined. The case also saw the conclusions of expertise and service investigations, as well as the evidence collected in the criminal case.
Rashid Kadyrov was arrested in February 2018. At that time, a criminal case was initiated against him under Articles 165 (extortion), 205 (abuse of power or authority) and 210 (taking bribes) of the Criminal Code.
The press secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shahrukh Giyosov, informed "Daryo" that this case is currently under the jurisdiction of the court. Hayat Shamsutdinov, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General's Office, added that he does not have such information at the moment.
Abdurahman Tashanov, chairman of the human rights society "Ezgulik", also posted about Kadyrov's release and recalled that the film about the former prosecutor general was not shown.
