A group of Uzbek scientists proposed to immortalize the memory of academician Tursunbay Rashidov, who stood for the idea of creating a metro in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent. It is proposed to call a subway station after Tursunbay Rashidov, who served as the director of the Institute of Seismology.
Under his scientific assistance, it became possible to design the metro in high seismic and unfavorable ground conditions of Tashkent and implement seismic-resistant structures of tunnels and stations. Thanks to the efforts of Tursunbay Rashidov, Tashkent has become home to a beautiful, reliable, and the very first subway system in Central Asia. For this contribution, in 2018, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev awarded Tursunbay Rashidov ‘Mehnat shuhrati’ order.
Uzbek honored academician Tursunbay Rashidov died on October 7, 2020, at the age of 86, as a result of acute cardiovascular failure.
