Uzbekistan has launched its first plant for processing solid waste into fuel, the press service of the country’s Ministry of Energy reports. Located in the Khodjeili district of Karakalpakstan, it boosts a production capacity of 12,000 tons of fuel pellets annually.
For processing, oilcake, corn stalks, tree leaves, sawdust obtained during the processing of wood, as well as household waste is used. The resulting pellets can be applied for heating households and social facilities in addition to coal.
‘Korea Energy Agency’ (KEA) assisted in the creation of the production of alternative fuels. The new production will help open 20 vacant jobs.
In October this year, Tashkent’s city council developed a project to reorganize the system for collecting, removing, and processing waste in Uzbekistan’s capital.
