Uzbekistan will buy 17 aircraft from the French company. Navroz Ashirmatov, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Transport, informed "Daryo" about this.
According to Gazeta.uz, France will deliver to Uzbekistan 8 Airbus A320neo and 4 A321neo (694.3 million euros), as well as 5 ATR 72-600 aeroplanes for 800 million euros. In addition, it is planned to purchase two Airbus H145 helicopters (21 million euros).
On November 22, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilhom Mahkamov and the Vice President of Airbus International for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Jacques Garrige concluded agreements between Airbus and Uzbekistan Airways at the ceremony held in the building of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, a contract was signed for the delivery of 5 ATR 72-600 aircraft for 100 million euros.
Silk Avia and the Franco-Italian concern ATR have signed the main contract for the purchase of five new ATR 72-600 aircraft, three directly from the manufacturer and two from the lessor.
"We are very pleased that our airline will start flights with ATR aircraft in the near future. We have thoroughly analyzed the best option and terms. The ATR 72-600 is one of the most popular short-haul aircraft in the world. An economical low-cost aircraft that consumes four times less fuel than the A320 allows to offer passengers reliability and comfort at an affordable price," Rano Jorayeva, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports underpinned.
As part of the meeting in Paris, Silk Avia and ATR also signed a global maintenance agreement. The contract significantly reduces maintenance costs and increases productivity. The document includes maintenance and capital repairs, unit replacement, and spare parts stock.
"In a rapidly developing country like Uzbekistan, Silk Avia plays an important role in the development of domestic tourism and stimulation of the economy. Studies have shown that a 10% increase in regional flights can lead to a 5% increase in local GDP, and ATR is doing its part by providing reliable and affordable regional aircraft. We are pleased to welcome Silk Avia as our new partner, opening up a new market for ATR in Central Asia," Natalie Tarno Laud, CEO of ATR said.
As part of the agreement, Silk Avia will receive aircraft equipped with the new generation PW127XT engines, which will provide a 20 per cent reduction in maintenance costs and a 3 per cent reduction in fuel consumption compared to existing engines. Silk Avia aircraft will be the first new ATRs to fly in Central Asia.
