On November 18, the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the law "On the ratification of the Izmir Treaty (Izmir, September 14, 1996)" signed by 10 countries - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Iran and Uzbekistan.
The agreement defines the organizational structure of the Economic Cooperation Organization, its goals and principles of operation, as well as financial issues and the procedure for making decisions in the organization. During the discussion, the senators noted that the ratification of the Izmir Treaty by Uzbekistan creates a legal basis for full membership in the Economic Cooperation Organization, as well as allows for extensive cooperation with the member states of the organization.
Uzbekistan's full participation in the organization allows for an increase in the volume of foreign investments and expands transport and logistics corridors, including by unifying transit transportation tariffs and increasing the attractiveness of regions of the country to tourists. Following the discussion, the senators approved the law.
