Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the participants of the first conference on "European Union - Central Asia interdependence: Global gateways for sustainable development" held in Samarkand on November 18, "Daryo" correspondent reports.
The head of state expressed his gratitude to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, who participated in the event, the foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries, the leaders of prestigious international organizations, in particular, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Investment Bank.
It is noted that the recently held first summit of the heads of state of Central Asia and the European Union and today's international conference clearly demonstrate the strong desire of the parties for strategic cooperation.
“Today's complex geopolitical processes and various unpredictable conflicts, global political and economic instability, and various modern threats require further expansion of cooperation and mutually beneficial partnership between regions and countries.
Although the renewed strategy of the European Union for Central Asia has been adopted, unfortunately, due to the pandemic, which has been a difficult test period, we have fully implemented many of our previously defined plans, the most important tasks on the agenda with our European partners. , we cannot say.
Therefore, this conference, which is being held in Samarkand, is aimed at activating dialogue between the European Union and Central Asia, enriching our cooperation with practical programs and projects, forming a system of open and effective interregional relations, and deepening multilateral partnerships.
In order to strengthen the mutual relations of two rapidly developing important regions, to fully implement the "Global Gateway" initiative, we are focusing on priority areas - digital transformation, interconnection in the field of transport and "green growth" projects. we believe that it is necessary to pay special attention,” the president said.
“It is important to effectively use the great potential of the European Union and Central Asia in terms of digital transformation for mutually beneficial cooperation and inclusive development. Plans and programs of the European Union aimed at the establishment of wide optical fibre corridors connecting the region, and wide implementation of digital technologies in management and social sphere, industry, health care, education, finance and agriculture are available in Uzbekistan. is supported.
In addition, diversification of transport routes in order to enter world markets, and actively participate in global integration and cooperation processes is an equally urgent task for all countries of the region. In this regard, a number of initiatives of the European Union serve to create the most optimal and efficient transit and logistics infrastructures between the regions.
The development of the Trans-Caspian multimodal route, it will greatly contribute to the deepening of trade and economic cooperation between the European continent and Asia, and the access of Central Asian countries to foreign markets through the most convenient transport corridors.
Also, the European Union is our main partner in "green development". In our region, we are the most advanced and most advanced of all European countries whose representatives are gathered here in the wide implementation of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies, the development of "smart agriculture", and the full use of the potential of renewable energy sources. we rely on modern experience.
There is no doubt that mitigating the consequences of climate change, transitioning to inclusive "green growth", rational use of water, and ensuring environmental safety will continue to be the priorities of our multilateral cooperation. In this sense, we believe that the "European Union - Central Asia" international conference on environment and water resources, which will be held in Rome next year, will make it possible to achieve concrete practical results in this direction.
Our joint efforts to strengthen the relations between Central Asia and the European Union will definitely bear positive results. I hope that this platform in the format of "Central Asia - European Union" will become regular, and its sessions will hold effective discussions on the current topics of our cooperation, develop common approaches and multilateral program documents related to our regional relations,” Mirziyoyev noted.
