On October 14, Tanzila Norboyeva, the chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the chairman of the National Commission for Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor, received Rachel Beckett, the manager of the "Better Cotton Initiative" (BCI) non-profit organization.
The open dialogue touched upon constructive and practical aspects, the prospects of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the "Better Cotton Initiative".
In particular, an agreement was reached on the introduction of international standards to the cotton clusters of Uzbekistan, appropriate licensing, and the introduction of a traceability system for local textile products by the establishment of the representative office of BCI in Tashkent in foreseeable future.
BCI certifies the entire production process from "cotton field to sale". The organization has more than a thousand members, including more than 80 of the world's largest brands, such as H&M, Gap, IKEA, Levi Strauss, Zara, Hugo Boss, Adidas, and Puma.
