On the occasion of the Uzbek language day (October 21), the Consulate General of Uzbekistan gathered Uzbek compatriots in the hotel "Hotel Makkah by Millennium", Dunyo news agency reports.
The participants hailed the language promotion policy conducted by the Uzbek government that has established learning centres in many universities abroad, and the number of people interested in learning the Uzbek language in foreign countries is increasing every year.
Currently, the number of Uzbek speakers on earth has exceeded 60 million, Uzbek language is taught in more than 50 higher educational institutions globally.
The Bukhari diaspora of Uzbek origin living in Saudi Arabia noted that raising the status of the Uzbek language in society is becoming an urgent task. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to widely promote the Uzbek language in Saudi Arabia, to organize special courses for the children of the diaspora to master the national language, and to provide them with the necessary literature.
