At the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council, the draft resolution "Discussion of the situation related to human rights in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China" was rejected. 17 countries supported it, 19 opposed it, and 11 abstained.
The first vote on 47 draft laws held at the Human Rights Council session discussed the situation related to the violation of human rights in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and held a special meeting in this regard.
The project was opposed by countries such as Pakistan, Qatar, Indonesia, UAE, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Countries such as Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, South Korea, and the United States demanded a discussion on the issue of the humiliation of Muslims in East Turkestan.
Thus, the violation of the rights of the Muslim population of China was not included in the agenda of the UN Human Rights Council.
Since the spring of 2017, the government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (East Turkestan; occupied by communist China in 1949) has been conducting a secret policy against representatives of the indigenous population, in particular, Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and Dungans, many of whom " being sent to concentration camps for re-education. According to UN experts, the number of prisoners in the camps exceeds one million. Canada, France, Germany, and the United States have previously called on Beijing to close these camps.
Earlier, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, published a report on the violations of laws in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to the document, the Chinese government has committed "serious violations" of human rights as part of measures to combat terrorism and extremism in the region. Beijing's actions against the Uyghurs and other Muslim nations can be considered crimes against humanity, the UN said.
The Chinese government rejects the claims in the report as "disinformation and lies fabricated by China's enemies." Beijing believes the document "ignores human rights gains in Xinjiang and the damage suffered by the region's citizens from terrorism and extremism."
