Uzbek government plans to include the length of work service in the penitentiaries to their total length of work experience. This was announced at the regular meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on July 2.
The draft law "On amendments and additions to certain legal documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at reliable protection of the rights and legal interests of prisoners" aims to improve the conditions of imprisoners, to introduce a procedure for calculating the length of service of convicts involved in labour in the colonies by adding it to the total length of service, and to establish strict criteria for determining that the convicts are on the road to recovery. developed for the purpose.
The draft will also influence change in the law "On State Pension of Citizens", Tax Code and Criminal Executive Codes of Uzbekistan. This move is being harmonized with international law norms.
At the same time, clear criteria are being defined for assessing the prisoner's recovery, which will serve as a basis for incentives, early parole, and commutation of the sentence.
