Uzbekistan Railways may purchase 4 more trains from Spain

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Spain organized a meeting for the delegation of "Uzbekistan Railways and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Spain in Madrid, Dunyo news agency reports.

The meeting discussed the possibility of preferential loans for the purchase of 4 high-speed electric trains "Talgo-250" from the "Fund for the internalization of the company (FIEM)".

According to the embassy, the head of the department for the organization and use of high-speed passenger trains of "Uzbekistan Railways" JSC Sherzod Tolaganov and the specialist of the department of international cooperation and foreign economic relations Azamkhan Meliboyev participated. On the Spanish side, Veronika Samper, Deputy Director of the Department of Asia, Non-EU European Countries and Oceania of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, as well as responsible employees of the "FIEM" Foundation, participated.

Sherzod Tolaganov, the head of the department for the organization and use of high-speed passenger trains of "Uzbekistan Railways", presented the railway projects carried out in Uzbekistan.

The Spanish Patentes Talgo S.L.U. has been a cardinal supplier of 6 high-speed electric trains that were funded by a 30-year loan with a 10-year grace period by the FIEM.

Further, the Uzbek delegation presented the Bukhara-Urganch-Khiva railway line electrification project. After the commissioning of this high-speed line, it is planned to purchase 4 additional electric trains. The parties discussed the possibility of organizing the purchase of "Talgo-250" trains at the expense of the fund's preferential loan for financing the project.

The Spanish government assured to continue the collaboration with Uzbekistan and make every effort to positively resolve the issue of the possibility of granting a loan from the "FIEM" fund on preferential terms.

In June 2019, JSC "Uzbekistan Railways" signed a contract with Spain's Patentes Talgo S.L.U. A contract was signed with the company for the purchase of two high-speed electric trains of the Talgo-250 series. According to the agreements, until October 2021, the locomotive fleet of JSC "Uzbekistan Railways" should be filled with two high-speed "Afrosiyob" electric trains. Spain's Patentes Talgo S.L.U. company fulfilled its obligations fully and on time. On October 1, the arrival of the last train "Afrosiyob" was solemnly welcomed at the Tashkent Central Railway Station.
