Uzbekistan plans to double uranium production in 2022-2030 - up to 7.1 thousand tons per year, the official document published in "Lex.uz".
Once the country achieves its goal, it will become the second largest producer of uranium after Kazakhstan.
It is planned to scale up the fossil fuel from 4.7 thousand to 10.5 thousand tons in 2022-2030 due to the activation of geological exploration.
The decision approved a list of 20 investment projects for increasing uranium mining in Uzbekistan with a total value of about 460 million dollars.
According to 2021 data, Uzbekistan ranks seventh in the world in terms of uranium reserves, and fifth in terms of extraction but doesn’t have any facility to use.
