The Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan (PGO) has provided extra information on the criminal case initiated under Article 159, Part 4 of the Criminal Code (conspiring to seize power or overthrow the constitutional system of the Republic of Uzbekistan) in connection with the mass riots in Karakalpakstan.
The established investigative team of the General Prosecutor's Office is charged with the task of determining all the circumstances of the incidents, and carrying out investigative actions objectively and in strict compliance with the law.
The Office has apprehended 14 suspects in accordance with Article 227 of the Criminal Code, including D.M. Tajimuratov and A.T. Turdanov.
According to the PGO, L.O. Kallikhanova actions had shown signs of a threat to public safety that led to her arrest.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan has pledged to fully comply with international law and respect the honour and dignity of the detainees showing zero tolerance for any torture, violence, cruel or humiliating actions.
Preliminary investigations are underway. The penalty for committing the crime specified in this article is imprisonment from 10 to 20 years.
