The hydrogen sulfide leak that occurred in early September at the "Mustakillik-25" field has been contained following the successful extinguishment of well No. 604. Uzbekistan's Ministry of Emergency Situations reported this to Daryo.
To achieve this, additional anti-leakage equipment was constructed and installed. Preparations to seal and extinguish the wellbore were completed, and the well was fully secured. On September 14, at approximately 1:05 p.m., an anti-leakage device was installed on the pipe protruding from the tower, and on September 15, the entire system was tested under pressure. Later that day, at 4:40 p.m., a special solution called Barit was injected, and by 4:50 p.m., both the gas flow from the tower and the outlet equipment had been successfully stopped. The entire operation to mitigate the effects of the accident was conducted under the supervision of a specially organized team.
To ensure a professional evaluation of the situation, experts from Uzbekistan, Russia, and the USA were brought in. The joint efforts of Uzbekistan’s military unit, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Inspectorate "Sanoatkontexnazorat" ensured that all necessary measures were taken to prevent and control open oil and gas leaks.
Officials noted that the public was not in danger during the response to the accident. The operation was fully equipped with all necessary resources, and safety measures were in place. Special monitoring posts were set up in nearby settlements to measure and observe air quality. The analysis confirmed that the concentration of harmful substances in the atmosphere never exceeded permissible limits. The work area around the drilling rig has since been cleaned and prepared for installing new equipment.
The development of the "Mustakillik-25" field is particularly challenging. International experience is being applied, and strict safety protocols are in place, including continuous supervision of personnel. As hydrocarbon production becomes increasingly complex, the report added that new skills and expertise are constantly required.
