President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan hosted a delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Liu Guozhong of the State Council of the People's Republic of China on May 13. The visit was in conjunction with the upcoming session of the Uzbekistan-China Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation, presidential press service informed.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Liu Guozhong conveyed warm greetings and well wishes from President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang of China to President Mirziyoyev. The discussions centered on the further enhancement of multilateral cooperation and the deepening of strategic partnership relations under all circumstances. An analysis of the progress made in implementing agreements reached during the high-level visit to China in January of the same year was also conducted.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the fruitful outcomes of the committee's activities, which have led to a steady increase in trade volume and investments, along with an expansion of regular air travel and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Special attention was given to achieving balance in trade indicators and facilitating the entry of Uzbekistani products into the Chinese market. Additionally, efforts to expedite crucial investment projects in strategic sectors of the economy were discussed, alongside plans to enhance regional cooperation and implement various humanitarian, educational, and tourism programs.
A significant highlight of the discussion was the immediate commencement of the practical phase of the construction project for the "China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan" railway.
Earlier Daryo reported that President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan has revealed intentions to initiate the building of the railway connecting China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan in October 2024.
