The tax contributions from foreign IT companies operating in Uzbekistan have seen a substantial increase, with payments rising by 1.5 times compared to the same period last year. From January to June 2024, these companies paid a total of UZS 48.4bn ($3.84mn) in taxes.
A total of 60 foreign companies providing electronic services in Uzbekistan contributed to this significant increase. The majority of these tax payments, 95.1%, came from just ten major companies.
Meta led the contributions with UZS 18.4bn ($1.5mn), followed by Google with UZS 12.9bn ($1mn), and Apple with UZS 9.8bn ($778,396). Booking paid UZS 1.1bn ($87,371), Amazon contributed UZS 949.2mn ($75,393), and Zoom paid UZS 696.6mn ($55,329). Netflix, Acca, Xsolla, and Adobe also made contributions, paying UZS 666mn ($52,899), UZS 652.1mn ($51,795), UZS 449.3mn ($35,687), and UZS 301.3mn ($23,932) respectively.
These companies span a diverse range of sectors including e-commerce, online streaming, cloud computing, and digital finance, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the electronic services industry.
From January to March 2024, 57 foreign companies in the electronic services sector paid a total of UZS 23.6bn ($1.9mn) in taxes. Meanwhile in 2023, from January to April 2023, foreign IT companies in Uzbekistan paid UZS 32.4bn ($2.6mn) in taxes, representing a 1.6-fold increase from the previous year.
