Kyrgyzstan and China have signed a protocol in Beijing to advance the construction of a laboratory in Bishkek aimed at facilitating the export of Kyrgyz food products to the Chinese market.

The document was signed by Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, and Hu Zhangliang, Deputy Director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
The laboratory will focus on the inspection and quarantine of agricultural and food products, ensuring they meet Chinese import standards. This move aligns with a 2017 exchange of notes between the governments of Kyrgyzstan and China, in which China committed to exploring the feasibility of supporting such a facility.

Research and feasibility studies were carried out by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Design in 2017, 2018, and most recently in 2024. Following joint evaluations, both sides agreed on the technical scope and design framework for the project.
The facility will be designed according to Chinese technical standards and construction regulations while incorporating Kyrgyzstan’s national standards and legal requirements. All related project costs will be funded by the Chinese government as part of its development assistance to Kyrgyzstan.
The laboratory is expected to improve Kyrgyzstan’s food export capacity and deepen agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
