Uzbekistan and the European Union have strengthened their partnership with the signing of agreements for two EU-funded projects under the "Team Europe Initiative on Digital Connectivity in Central Asia."

The Connectivity for Central Asia (C4CA) Project aims to enhance digital infrastructure and integration across the region, fostering economic growth and improving access to online services. By bridging the digital divide, the project will facilitate closer collaboration among Central Asian nations.
Meanwhile, the Satellite Connectivity for Underserved Populations project is designed to provide high-speed internet access to remote and underserved communities, ensuring rural areas benefit from digital opportunities in education, healthcare, and economic development.
The agreements were signed during a visit by Jozef Síkela, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, who emphasized the importance of digital connectivity in fostering economic growth and improving livelihoods.
"EU and Uzbekistan are working together to improve internet connectivity across Central Asia. European technology and Uzbek expertise will help expand access to secure and fast internet, support business growth, create jobs, and improve living conditions for local communities," Jozef Síkela voiced.
Beyond digital connectivity, the visit also focused on strengthening cooperation in sustainable development, job creation through critical raw materials, and enhancing the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor to boost trade. Commissioner Síkela visited the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex, a major industrial site, to explore opportunities for sustainable resource development and responsible investment in critical raw materials. The EU aims to strengthen cooperation in this sector to promote economic sustainability and resilience.
The Global Gateway initiative, which serves as the foundation of this partnership, is the EU’s strategy to foster sustainable connectivity in digital, energy, and transport sectors while strengthening education and research systems. The initiative seeks to mobilize €300bn in public and private investments from 2021 to 2027, supporting sustainable development and resilient global partnerships.
