During the Summit of the Future at the United Nations headquarters, Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon delivered an address highlighting the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation and information sharing to effectively combat terrorism and extremism.
In his speech, President Rahmon emphasized the UN's essential role in addressing these pressing global threats.
“We must expand international cooperation, exchange information, and strengthen capacity to prevent terrorism, extremism, and other global threats. We support the key and coordinating role of the UN in this area,” he stated.
Rahmon's comments reflect Tajikistan’s commitment to the "Dushanbe Process," an initiative aimed at combating terrorism, and he welcomed the integration of terrorism-related issues into the Future Pact adopted at the summit.
President Rahmon expressed optimism that dialogue and constructive cooperation among nations are vital to overcoming modern challenges.
“The international community can achieve success only through dialogue and constructive cooperation in the name of finding ways to overcome modern threats,” he remarked.
This collaborative approach is crucial for ensuring sustainable development and maintaining global peace, as highlighted in his address.
Additionally, President Rahmon addressed the critical issues of water resources and climate change, acknowledging that while some progress has been made, efforts in water supply and sanitation remain inadequate. He reiterated Tajikistan’s readiness to intensify collaboration with other nations on initiatives aimed at addressing these environmental challenges.
“We intend to engage with other countries and step up efforts on water resources and climate change,” he affirmed.
