Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved negotiations to allow Uzbekistan to utilize the GLONASS navigation system signals. He signed the relevant order, stating, "Accept the proposal of the government to hold negotiations on the conclusion of an agreement between the governments of Russia and Uzbekistan regarding access to high-precision signals from the GLONASS global navigation satellite system."
GLONASS, which stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, was initiated as a pilot project in July 2013 across 15 regions of Russia and was officially launched for industrial use on January 1, 2015. The system is widely employed in various fields, including positioning, navigation, geodesy, scientific research, and agriculture.
Since 2018, subscriber terminals for GLONASS have been installed in all vehicles sold in Russia. Leading technology companies, such as MediaTek, Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, and Hisilicon, manufacture chips that receive signals from GLONASS, GPS, and other navigation systems, further enhancing the integration of satellite navigation technology in modern applications.
