PepsiCo is set to commence construction on a new potato chip manufacturing facility in Kazakhstan with a substantial $160mn investment. This development was announced during a meeting between PepsiCo executives and Kazakhstan's Deputy Foreign Minister, Alibek Kuantyrov.
The new plant, located in the Almaty region, is expected to boost local economic growth and support Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector. The facility will create 350 jobs and will utilize local raw materials, highlighting the company's commitment to integrating into the local economy.
At first, the plant will produce between 14,000 and 16,000 tons, with plans to increase capacity to 21,000 tons in later stages. The first phase of construction is projected to be completed by 2026.
PepsiCo representatives expressed their appreciation for the support from the Kazakh government and underscored that this investment marks the beginning of a broader commitment to the region. The company intends to collaborate closely with local suppliers and expand production to cater to both the domestic and Central Asian markets.
This plant will be PepsiCo's first major food production project in Kazakhstan, reinforcing the company’s growing footprint in the country.
Earlier, Carlsberg Group and PepsiCo revealed plans to expand their strategic partnership. Beginning January 1, 2026, Carlsberg will handle the bottling of PepsiCo's non-alcoholic beverages in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Under this agreement, Carlsberg will manage the production, sale, and distribution of PepsiCo products in these regions.
