Ankara is set to bolster its collaboration with Astana in combat training and the military-industrial sector, according to Turkish Minister of National Defense, Yasar Guler. This development was announced during a recent meeting with Kazakhstan’s Defense Minister, Ruslan Zhaksylykov, in Astana.
Zhaksylykov expressed enthusiasm for the strengthened ties, stating, "I am glad to welcome you to Kazakhstan. Today, close relations are developing between the defense departments of the two countries in many areas, including the defense-industrial complex. Kazakh servicemen regularly participate in the Efes and Kysh exercises held in Türkiye, and our cadets train successfully in Turkish military universities. I believe your visit will give a new impetus to our bilateral cooperation."
Guler emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to deepening cooperation in military training, defense education, and the defense industry. He praised Kazakhstan as a reliable partner in Central Asia, highlighting the high level of proficiency exhibited by Kazakh military personnel in joint exercises.
“Our relations are built on a common history and mutual understanding. Kazakhstan is our reliable partner in Central Asia. We note the high level of training of the Kazakh servicemen at our exercises and are ready to increase cooperation in these areas. In addition, the Turkish Armed Forces intend to deepen cooperation in combat training, military education and the defense industry,” Guler noted.
On September 11, Guler also engaged in discussions about security cooperation with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The announcement follows the ongoing "Boundless Brotherhood - III" exercises in Kazakhstan’s Turkestan region. These exercises, which began on September 10, feature special forces units from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan, with Jordan and Kyrgyzstan participating as observers.
