To support farmers during the crucial grain drying period, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan has allocated 67,700 tons of diesel fuel and 5,000 tons of liquefied gas. This decision, made in response to requests from farmers across Akmola, Karaganda, Pavlodar, Kostanay, North Kazakhstan, and East Kazakhstan regions, aims to address the fuel needs of grain drying units.
The allocation was announced during a meeting of the operational headquarters on autumn field work, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin. The primary goal is to ensure that the grain drying processes continue smoothly throughout the harvesting season, which spans September and October.
Currently, the total requirement for liquefied gas in the six grain-growing regions is 21,500 tons. Of this, 5,000 tons have already been distributed to Akmola, Pavlodar, and North Kazakhstan, regions with the highest number of gas-operated dryers.
To address the needs of farmers in the remaining regions, Zhumangarin has instructed a redistribution of the allocated gas volumes. Additionally, there will be a review of potential reductions in the commercial price of liquefied gas to meet the full demand for the season. For regions where dryers use both diesel and gas, diesel fuel remains the preferred option.
Aidar Prashev, Chairman of the Board of KazAgroFinance, highlighted that a financial instrument has been developed to facilitate the purchase of grain dryers at an interest rate of 9% per annum. The government is subsidizing 30% of the cost of these machines. So far, six applications totaling KZT 260mn ($544,354) have been received.
As of September 10, the country has harvested approximately 4.7mn hectares of grain and leguminous crops, accounting for 28% of the total area. The average yield stands at 14.9 centners per hectare, with around 6.9mn tons of grain threshed.
On September 5, a total of 880,500 tons of grain arrived at the republic’s elevators. Of this, 40.1% had a moisture content of up to 14.5%, and 23.1% ranged from 14.6% to 17%. About 260,400 tons (29.6%) were dried, and 321,800 tons (36.5%) were processed.
