"The city of Washington, as the capital of the United States of America, recognizes with great respect the independence of Uzbekistan and its importance on the world scale," stated Mayor Bowser.
The declaration of September 1 as Uzbekistan Independence Day in Washington, D.C., signifies the ongoing diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries. The partnership has grown in recent years, focusing on collaboration across various fields.

The mayor recognized the role of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in advancing bilateral relations, particularly in expanding cultural exchanges.
Washington, D.C., founded in 1791 and named after the first U.S. president, George Washington, serves as the seat of the U.S. government, housing the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court. The city is also home to embassies, including that of Uzbekistan, and the headquarters of major international organizations like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
It was previously reported that trade between Uzbekistan and the United States nearly doubled from 2022 to 2024. In the first half of 2024, trade turnover with the U.S. reached $463mn, a significant rise from $282mn in the same period of 2023 and $248.2mn in 2022.
Uzbekistan's exports to the U.S. have seen a dramatic increase over the past three years, growing from $28.7mn in 2022 to $149.8mn in 2024, representing a 421% increase. The growth included a 172% rise from 2022 to 2023 and a 92% rise from 2023 to 2024.
