Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and Afghanistan's Acting Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Barodar co-chaired a high-level meeting between Uzbek and Afghan businessmen in Kabul, Afghanistan, as part of the Uzbek government delegation's visit.
The discussions focused on enhancing the already friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the two neighboring countries. Both parties highlighted the favorable conditions being established to support the business communities of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, with a particular emphasis on upcoming initiatives aimed at boosting trade and investment.
One of the key announcements was the introduction of a Preferential Trade Agreement, set to take effect on October 1, 2024. This agreement will see the elimination of import duties on 14 different products, streamlining the process for exporters and enhancing trade flow between the two nations.
Additionally, to facilitate the increased import of agricultural products from Afghanistan, the procedure for issuing phytosanitary permits has been simplified.
To further support cross-border trade, the Ayritom-Khayraton border post has transitioned to a 24-hour operational schedule as of August 1, 2024.
Furthermore, a 15-day visa-free regime and tax exemptions will be introduced for visitors to the International Trade Center in Termiz, Uzbekistan, encouraging greater economic interaction.
The meeting also saw the signing of an agreement on the mutual promotion and protection of investments, which is expected to provide Afghan businessmen with greater confidence to invest and operate in Uzbekistan.
During the open dialogue, detailed information was shared on these and other measures aimed at enhancing the business environment and supporting entrepreneurial activities in both countries.
