Meticulous oversight is being exercised in Uzbekistan over the pruning process across the nation's expansive cotton fields, the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan reported. With cotton cultivation sprawling across 1.12mn hectares this season, agricultural authorities are closely monitoring the crucial phases of development.
Currently, significant portions of the cotton fields are progressing through various growth stages: 238,000 hectares in the 3-4 boll phase, 382,000 hectares in the 5-6 boll phase, and 391,000 hectares in the 7-8 boll phase.
The meticulous care includes frequent row cultivations, averaging 6.9 times per region, as well as 5.4 rounds of foliar feeding and three nitrogen mineral fertilizer applications covering 98% of the cultivated areas.
Highlighting the progress, chilpish (pruning) operations have already been completed on 962,000 hectares, encompassing a substantial 95% of the total cotton fields.
As the agricultural season nears its peak, completion rates vary across regions, with Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Tashkent, Fergana, and Khorezm nearly finished, while Kashkadarya, Navoi, Namangan, and Syrdarya regions report 90-95% completion.
However, amidst these strides, the Agro-Industrial Complex under Uzbekistan's Ministry of Agriculture has undertaken stringent on-site inspections to ensure timely and high-quality ginning of cotton.
Recent assessments have revealed discrepancies: 4,886 hectares across 897 farms experienced delayed or substandard ginning processes. Moreover, agrotechnical oversights were identified on 141,000 hectares of land during these inspections.
To rectify these issues, authorities have issued 326 submissions and delivered 16,293 warnings to farm heads and cluster enterprises, urging swift corrective actions to uphold the standards of the cotton industry.
