Uzbekistan imported gas worth $809.5mn from January to June 2024, marking an increase of over four times compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Statistics Agency.

This surge contrasts sharply with the $200mn in gas imports recorded in the first half of 2023 and surpasses the total gas imports for the entire year of 2023, which amounted to $694.9mn.
In addition to the rise in imports, Uzbekistan's gas exports have seen a decline. From January to June 2024, the country exported gas valued at $241.4mn, a decrease of 13.3% from $278.4mn during the same period last year. In June alone, Uzbekistan imported gas worth $166.3mn while exporting $181.5mn.
Since the start of 2024, Uzbekistan's gas exports have dropped totaling $59.9mn. This is a decrease from $201.5mn exported in the same period last year, representing a 3.3-fold reduction in value.
In addition, since 2020, Uzbekistan has exported nearly $2.7bn worth of gas, including shipments to Kyrgyzstan and partially to Russia. However, Chinese import data reveals a discrepancy, showing that Uzbekistan’s gas exports to China alone amounted to $3.23bn, a difference of $538.1mn or 19.9%.
