The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan solidified their commitment to enhancing the country’s education system and promoting sustainable development through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on June 20.
The MoU points out a joint dedication to improving educational programs in Turkmenistan, with a focus on integrating human rights principles, advancing gender equality, supporting climate change initiatives, and promoting healthy lifestyles within educational institutions across the country.
A pivotal aspect of the memorandum is the integration of digital technologies and innovative solutions into Turkmenistan’s education sector. This initiative aims to foster a more inclusive and efficient education system capable of meeting diverse societal needs, as highlighted in a UNDP press release.
Narine Sahakyan, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, expressed the significance of this partnership:
"This Memorandum of Understanding is an important step towards improving digital education and sustainable development in Turkmenistan. Using innovation and technology, we strive to create a more inclusive and effective education system that benefits everyone."
As the principal UN agency for international development, operating in 170 countries and territories worldwide, UNDP collaborates closely with governments, development partners, and civil society organizations to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. In Turkmenistan, UNDP works alongside the government to advance the national development agenda and enhance the well-being of its people.
