Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed their nations' enduring friendship and strategic partnership during a meeting in Astana. The gathering preceded the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), scheduled for July 4.
President Xi described President Putin as an "old friend," expressing delight at their meeting on significant multilateral occasions, which he emphasized as a testament to the high-level relations between China and Russia.
Reflecting on President Putin's recent state visit to China in May, President Xi highlighted the collaborative efforts to chart the course for future bilateral ties, especially in the context of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
"In the face of global turbulence and changing external environments, both sides must preserve the enduring friendship and unwavering resolve that underpin our relations," President Xi remarked, pointing out the importance of conserving the unique value of China-Russian relations.
President Putin echoed these sentiments, lauding the current state of bilateral relations as the strongest in history. He emphasized that the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for the new era operates on principles of equality, mutual benefit, and respect for sovereignty.
"Our cooperation is not directed against any third party, nor does it aim to form any bloc or alliance," President Putin asserted, reiterating their commitment to serving the interests of both peoples and upholding international norms.
