China and Kazakhstan marked a historic milestone with over $41bn in bilateral trade in 2023, announced by Akorda. The nations are currently collaborating on 45 joint investment projects valued at $14.5bn spanning industry, energy, transport, green economy, and agriculture sectors.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan and President Xi Jinping of China convened with their official delegations, underscoring the significance of their meeting in further strengthening the "eternal comprehensive strategic partnership" between the two countries.
President Tokayev lauded Xi Jinping's state visit as pivotal in advancing Kazakhstan-China relations, emphasizing their enduring friendship and neighborly ties. He highlighted the joint efforts that have elevated interstate cooperation to a model for bilateral relations, describing the current phase as a "golden period" of development.
“Kazakhstan attaches great importance to strengthening the ties of centuries-old friendship and good neighborliness with China. Our joint efforts across the entire spectrum of interaction have established interstate cooperation, which can serve as a model for bilateral relations. It is safe to say that cooperation between the countries has entered a new 'golden period' of development,” Tokayev stated.
Tokayev reiterated Kazakhstan's support for China's global peace initiatives and affirmed their commitment to the "one China" policy, and cooperation against terrorism, separatism, and extremism. He expressed readiness to support China's vision for a fair global order in alignment with international law and the UN Charter.
In response, Xi Jinping praised Kazakhstan's dynamic growth under Tokayev's leadership and emphasized the ancient roots of their bilateral friendship dating back to the Silk Road. He characterized their current partnership as marked by eternal friendship, deep mutual trust, and solidarity.
“The friendship between our countries took root in the ancient Silk Road and has been continuously developing for thousands of years. Our bilateral ties have reached an unprecedented level of eternal comprehensive strategic partnership, characterized by eternal friendship, deep mutual trust, and solidarity,” Xi noted.
The discussions between the leaders encompassed future prospects for investment in e-commerce, automobile production, transport logistics, energy, agriculture, finance, and tourism. Both sides acknowledged the effectiveness of existing trade and investment mechanisms and pledged governmental support for ongoing and future business ventures.
Additionally, the leaders explored ways to enhance interregional cooperation and expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges. President Tokayev welcomed educational initiatives such as the establishment of a branch of Beijing Language and Culture University and the Lu Ban Workshop.
