Uzbekistan is set to grant young freelancers the status of IT Park residents, providing them with significant benefits including a three-year tax exemption, as it was disclosed in a meeting of the president of Uzbekistan on youth policy and support for young Uzbek citizens, particularly those in the IT industry, on June 28.
Currently, over 50,000 young people in Uzbekistan work as self-employed individuals within the IT industry, primarily following a freelancing model. Despite their contributions to the sector, these freelancers face challenges due to the lack of an established system for dialogue and problem-solving with the government and other stakeholders.
Additionally, these IT Park residents will receive social cards granting them access to services including medical, sports, and office facilities.
The government will develop a program to popularize freelancing as a viable career option, providing resources and support to those interested in this path.
In addition to promoting freelancing, the President has also directed efforts towards encouraging young people to explore other profitable professions and entrepreneurial ventures. This initiative aims to diversify the career options available to young Uzbek citizens and stimulate economic growth through entrepreneurship.
The Cabinet of Ministers introduced export targets for large IT Park residents starting at the end of May. From October 1, foreign sales must account for at least 10% of their revenue, increasing to 20% by 2026 and 35% by 2027. This move is expected to boost the international competitiveness of Uzbek IT companies and increase the country's export revenue.
