Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin, participated in the III Interregional Forum "Kazakhstan - China" held in Urumqi, China on June 26. The event served as a pivotal platform for bolstering bilateral ties, witnessing the signing of numerous cooperation agreements totaling $629mn.
The forum, attended by representatives from 17 regions of Kazakhstan and 27 regions of China, addressed crucial aspects of trade, economic, transport, investment, cultural, and humanitarian collaboration. Highlighting China's significant role as the fourth-largest investor in Kazakhstan, Deputy Prime Minister Zhumangarin emphasized the conducive environment for enhanced interregional interaction and expansive investment opportunities.
Agreements were signed for various partnerships, including OJSC TBEA's construction and modernization of 10 substations and power lines in the Almaty region. There were also agreements to establish a plant for electrical equipment production, along with contracts secured for the supply of sunflower oil and camel milk powder.
Simultaneously, the international exhibition "EXPO China-Eurasia" commenced, marking its eighth iteration as a premier trade showcase in Urumqi. The opening ceremony, graced by high-level delegations from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan, emphasized the strategic importance of deepening regional economic integration.
In his address at the exhibition's inauguration, Deputy Prime Minister Zhumangarin outlined ambitious targets for bilateral trade, aiming to elevate mutual turnover to $100bn as part of the "golden 30th anniversary" of China-Kazakhstan relations. Kazakhstan showcased its largest pavilion, spanning 260 square meters, featuring exports from 42 domestic companies predominantly in the food sector.
The "EXPO China-Eurasia," scheduled from June 26 to 30, 2024, boasts a vast exhibition area of 140,000 square meters and hosts 1,900 companies from 50 countries and regions. Organized jointly by China's Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region government, the event stresses China's commitment to fostering global economic cooperation.
