The Uzbek Culture Days will take place in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, following a meeting between Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Nodirjon Turgunov, and Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Culture for International Relations, Fahd Al-Kanan.
Both sides delved into various avenues to bolster cultural cooperation between the two nations. Deputy Minister al-Kanan commended the burgeoning collaboration across all sectors and lauded Uzbekistan's active involvement in significant cultural events in Saudi Arabia in recent years.
Highlighting Uzbekistan's participation in the International Islamic Biennale, held biennially, Deputy Minister al-Kanan expressed eagerness for Uzbek representation in the upcoming event slated for January 2025 in Saudi Arabia. He proposed collaboration between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Culture, the Culture and Art Development Fund, and representatives of the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan for this initiative.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to pursue negotiations for hosting Uzbekistan Culture Days in Riyadh and Jeddah later this year. This endeavor aims to spotlight Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage and foster closer cultural bonds between the two nations.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan announced advancements in aviation cooperation, led by a delegation headed by Uzaviation agency director Tokhir Nazarov, engaging in negotiations with the Saudi Arabian Civil Aviation Authority.
These talks culminated in an agreement to increase the number of regular flights between the two countries to 50 per week. This milestone was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the aviation administrations of both nations.
Moreover, Saudi Arabia is exploring the possibility of canceling visa requirements for Uzbek citizens, further facilitating travel and cultural exchange. In April, both countries took a substantial step by signing an agreement to abolish short-stay visas for holders of diplomatic and special passports.
Saudi Arabia has also emerged as a leading investor in Uzbekistan's energy sector, signifying a deepening economic partnership alongside cultural and diplomatic engagements.
