On International Children’s Day, UNICEF joined hands with Turkmenistan Airlines to offer children a firsthand glimpse into the aviation industry, emphasizing that the sky's the limit when it comes to choosing a profession.

The special event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, aimed to ignite children’s curiosity and interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professions.
Children from the Palace of Orphans named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan were given the opportunity to explore various facets of the aviation industry. The day's activities commenced with a tour of the Ashgabat airport terminal, where the young participants learned about the rich history of civil aviation in Turkmenistan. They then embarked on an insightful excursion at the Aviation Personnel Training School of the "Turkmenhowayollary" Agency.
During their visit to the airport, the children engaged in interactive learning experiences, including boarding an airplane, witnessing takeoff and landing procedures, and visiting the rescue and fire service department. These hands-on activities provided them with a comprehensive understanding of airport operations and emergency services.
At the Aviation Personnel Training School, the children were exposed to various training equipment, such as flight simulators and emergency evacuation drills. They eagerly participated in these simulations, gaining valuable insights into the skills and responsibilities required in aviation professions.

Bahtygul, one of the participants, shared her excitement about the experience, expressing her newfound aspiration to become a pilot:
"Visiting the airport and seeing all the different jobs people do was amazing. I loved trying out the flight simulator and learning about how planes work. Now, I really want to become a pilot one day!"
Alexandru Nartea, UNICEF Deputy Representative in Turkmenistan, highlighted the significance of the partnership with Turkmenistan Airlines and the Ministry of Education in promoting career exploration among children.
"UNICEF is thrilled to partner with Turkmenistan Airlines and the Ministry of Education to celebrate the 2024 International Children’s Day. We hope this event inspires the children to explore diverse career opportunities in aviation," he remarked. "UNICEF will continue supporting the Ministry of Education and Turkmenistan Airlines to prepare a young generation of STEM professionals in Turkmenistan."
The event received widespread acclaim, evoking smiles and positive emotions among all participants, both children and adults alike.
