Representatives of Turkmenistan Airlines met with Ghanem bin Abdullah Al-Remaihi, Acting Chargé d'Affaires at the Qatari Embassy in Turkmenistan, to discuss establishing direct flights between the two countries. The discussions focused on both direct and transit flight possibilities.
During the meeting, there was a proposal to organize promotional campaigns for Qatar Airways in Turkmenistan, which would include information about tariffs and services. Additionally, the benefits that Qatari airports could offer to Turkmenistan Airlines' potential Ashgabat - Doha - Ashgabat route were discussed. The parties also noted that citizens of Turkmenistan will be able to use an online service for simplified visa processing when travelling to Qatar.
The meeting underscored Turkmenistan's commitment to further developing its civil aviation sector and expanding international air traffic. Turkmenistan Airlines announced plans to launch flights from Ashgabat to several new destinations, including Milan (Italy), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam).
This year, Turkmenistan Airlines intends to operate flights to 14 international destinations across 12 countries.
Earlier, Daryo reported that SOVICO Group, a Vietnamese investment company, is set to acquire Qazaq Air, according to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The current owner of Qazaq Air, Samruk Kazyna, has been attempting to sell the airline for some time. The first bidding process was initiated in August 2023, with several investors expressing interest. However, the deadline for applications was extended multiple times due to a lack of final bids.
